Welcome
We are a group of gay men with a love of meditation in its Christian and Buddhist forms, and a desire to come together to share contemplative practice.
We love the idea of sangha. Our participants have backgrounds both in Buddhist meditation and Christian contemplation. Some consider themselves more Buddhist, others more Christian.
We absolutely affirm the goodness of being gay, and welcome all our brothers who have that spark of longing for the Divine.
Among our influences are the teachings of Richard Rohr and the Center for Action and Contemplation, James Finley and his books and poodcasts, Thomas Keating, and Thomas Merton. We’ve been exploring the teachings of the mystics including Theresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Julian of Norwich, and Meister Eckhart, and the Buddhist teachings of Thich Naht Hanh, especially on compassion and engaged Buddhism.
Some of our members volunteered at Easton Mountain, NY, where there is a yearly gay Christian retreat.
We meet Saturday mornings at 8am Eastern for one hour of contemplative practice. Our meeting consists of:
30 minutes of meditation
Lectio Divina with a passage chosen by that week’s leader
Open sharing
The format will be familiar to participants in the meetings of Contemplative Outreach, meditationchapel.org
